Garage Sale Antiques was founded on April Fools Day in 1979 by Lyndee and Dennis DeMeo with friend Mike McShane, the annual April Fools Day party's in the shop were always a big hit for customers and friends for more than a decade. The original "Garage Sale" store was located at 304 East 5th Street in NYC and sold everything Vintage from 40's pottery and lighting to hip clothing, costume jewelry, records and furniture. The store became a regular neighborhood hangout and a place to pickup some cool stuff. After a few years they out grew the 5th Street location and moved to #26 1st Avenue and continued to grow through out the 1980's. In the late 80's hat and clothing designer Karen Flood, "The Hat Lady", joined the team. Shortly after, partner Dennis DeMeo left the business to complete his Masters Degree in Music at Columbia.
In 1991 partners Lyndee DeMeo and Mike McShane relocated to the Delaware Seashore and opened a second location in Rehoboth Beach. After juggling both locations for several years Lyndee and Mike turned over the NYC location to partner Karen Flood, who held that location until the late 90's. The success of the Delaware location enabled Lyndee and Mike to purchase a commercial complex and open the "Garage Sale Antique co-op" in 1994. After a great 10-year run at the Highway One co-op they sold that property and opened the fifth (&final?) shop:
"Garage Sale Antique Warehouse" on Nassau Rd. Lewes, DE.
